Enterprise Placement Year
Try working for yourself
Work placements are an essential part of many courses, but the conventional route is not your only option. Instead of an internship or placement with an employer, why not think about setting up your own business or working for yourself?
Enterprise Placement Year is an alternative placement where you can spend the year exploring, researching and planning to start a business or try self-employment. You don’t need an earth-shattering new idea – this isn’t Dragons’ Den – just enthusiasm and ambition!
Throughout Enterprise Placement Year (EPY) you will be based in The Duke of York Young Entrepreneur Centre and you will have the support of The Enterprise Team - a friendly, experienced team of Business Advisors on hand to help. The Team will work with you to help you develop your ideas and make a success of your year.
During EPY you may be eligible to apply for a Proof of Concept grant of up to £500 to help prove that your business idea is a winner, as well as benefiting from the hot desk office facilities in The Duke of York Young Entrepreneur Centre. You will be required to attend our weekly enterprise skills and networking sessions.
We'll work with you to help you make a success of your business. Following your placement year, you can apply for on-going support and access to our services for an additional year through our Enterprise Support programme.
If you are self-motivated and fancy giving it a go get in touch for more information and an informal chat or contact your School's Placement Unit.
