Computing and Library Services provide a wide variety of facilities and support for postgraduate researchers (PGRs), many of which can be accessed via StudentHub by logging in with your University username and password. There is also an enquiries desk on level 4 of the Schwann Building within the Library.

Handling personal, confidential and sensitive information, including use of survey tools
If you handle personal data from human participants, confidential or sensitive information, you must take all reasonable steps to safeguard it and must observe the University’s Data Protection Policy, the Regulations governing the use of computing facilities, the Information Security Policies and Procedures Guidance, particularly with regard to removable media, mobile, and privately owned devices.
Sensitive or confidential information, which postgraduate researchers (PGRs) may be generating and/or handling as part of their research, should only be kept in a cloud storage service that is approved by the University. It may be useful for PGRs to look at the University Privacy Impact Assessment screening and form, as well as the Privacy Impact Assessment guidance document alongside any ethics applications being made.

Working spaces for postgraduate researchers
There are over 500 PCs and 60 Macs available to ALL members of the University located in the Library (accessible by visiting level 4 of the Schwann Building) and in the 24/7 computer suite located near the Santander Bank branch on level 4 of the Schwann Building.
There is a PGR-specific computer room located on level five in the Library, room SB5/02 (Schwann Building, level 5, room 2). Entry is accessed by scanning your Library card. The Library also has bookable group study areas, group study rooms and presentation rooms, which can be booked here.

If you do not require a computer or are using your own device, there are plenty of other areas to work including levels 4 and 5 of Student Central, levels 3-7 in the Oastler Building and the many cafés located around campus.

IT support is the first point of contact for University-related IT problems. They are contactable by phone, email and at the Library and Computing Help Desk on campus (located in the Library on level 4 of the Schwann Building).
