Frequently Asked Questions

I’m eligible for the bursary - how can I get a laptop?

You will be automatically identified based on your household income assessment undertaken by your funding body when you apply for your student loans. If your household income is assessed as below £25,000 then you will be contacted by email with the details of how you can claim your laptop.

How will the laptop be delivered to me?

Your laptop will be delivered to you by courier. You can expect to receive your laptop within 2 working days of your order being placed.

How do I get support setting up my laptop and getting started?

To ensure your laptop is set up properly, please refer to the guidance materials provided with your laptop. You may also wish to refer to the supplier information. If you need support in accessing your University account, please see the Computing and Library Services website, or contact IT Support at it.support@hud.ac.uk or 01484 473737

I think I’m eligible, but my income assessment is not complete. What do I do?

Your income assessment is undertaken by your funding body (e.g. Student Finance England) so contact them to ensure they have supplied all the documents required for them to assess your household income. If you have had your full assessment competed and you are not contacted by the University it will be because your income is above the threshold for the Laptop Bursary.

I’m not eligible, what support can I get?

If you're not eligible for the scheme, there's a range of support available to you. This includes practical support in short term laptop loans from the Library, possible finanical guidance from Student Finance, disability support through Disability Services and wellbeing and welfare support through Wellbeing Services. You can find further support listed under other support.

I receive a laptop through Disabled Students’ Allowance – how will this affect me?

Students in receipt of a laptop resultant from the Disabled Students' Allowance award or in the process of applying for Disabled Students' Allowance that will likely result in the award of a laptop, are not eligible for a Laptop Bursary but will be able to access a short term loan laptop from Disability Services during the period their award is being processed and equipment supplied. Please contact or register with Disability Services to progress Disabled Students' Allowance applications and arrange a loan laptop. If you think you may be eligible for Students' Disabled Allowance please contact the Disability Service BEFORE submitting a Laptop Bursary application.
