Learning Support Service

The Learning Support Service provides Support Workers, Specialist Mentors and Specialist Study Skills Tutors for students who need additional support whilst they study because of the impact of their disability. The support may be recommended in two ways:

  1. Through the Disabled Students' Allowance (DSA): If you have applied for DSA and specialist support has been recommended, your notification of entitlement letter will let you know which company is supplying your support. Your letter will indicate if the University of Huddersfield is your supplier for a specific role. (Please note, DSA support worker provision is referred to as a Non-Medical Helper or NMH.)
  2. By a Disability Adviser in Disability Services: A Disability Adviser will recommend specialist support if you require this provision and you are not entitled to the Disabled Students' Allowance, e.g. because you are an apprentice, an international student or funded through a Research Council. Disability Advisers also recommend non-specialist Support Workers when required who provide practical assistance on campus, note taking, study buddy support, or library support.
