Disability Services can arrange for you to attend an Educational Psychologist assessment either in person or online. This will be carried out by an independent qualified educational psychologist. It will involve asking you to undertake a series of tests and activities to identify whether you have a specific learning difficulty and what impact this may have on your studies.
1. Firstly, you will need to arrange an appointment or have a discussion with a Disability Adviser to talk through the process.
2. If you wish to go ahead with the full assessment, you will be required to pay a £110 contribution (from 1 September 2023). This is paid online and represents one third of the total cost of the assessment. The remainder of the cost is paid by the University.
3. The full assessment report will be sent to your student email.
4. If the assessment concludes that you have a specific learning difficulty, you will be recommended study support and adjustments. These will be outlined in a document called a Personal Learning Support Plan (PLSP) and made available to relevant staff at the University. The support will be individual to you and may involve making accommodations in lectures, seminars or exams, or when using University facilities.
5. As the Educational Psychologist Assessment is carried out to identify challenges you have with your studies. Therefore, there is a cut-off date in your final year of study when an assessment may be requested.
If you are on an undergraduate course and your academic years start in September and finish in July, the cut-off date is the end of Term One in your final year of study.
If you are on other courses with different start and end dates, the cut-off date is 7 months before the end of your course in the final year.
