The careers team run regular workshops to help boost your skills on different employability topics such as CV writing or interview technique.
This interactive tool will help you practice your interview technique and compare your answers against advice from employers.
You can access expert careers information, advice and guidance, absolutely free, from our Level 7 qualified career advisers and consultants.
At the time of writing, there are two appointment types available:
Careers Planning and Interview Preparation appointments can be used to discuss a range of things, including: How to decide what to do after your degree, If you are thinking of changing or leaving your course, How to realise your full potential, How to market your skills effectively, Interview Preparation, Postgraduate study options in the UK or overseas, How to make a career plan, and your career and disability.
General Advice appointments can be used for a range of things, including: Applications and personal statement reviews, Advice on further study options, Preparing for a selection event, including psychometric tests and assessment centres, Getting into teacher training, Job search advice and strategy, Using Linkedin, Initial Interview Advice, CV advice on tailoring your CV (once you achieve 70% on CV Checker), How to find work experience, and Part-time jobs searching.
To book an appointment with a careers advisor or consultant, please visit the MyCareer portal's Appointment Booking pages, ensuring you are signed in with your University credentials.
Appointments are either 45 minutes or 20 minutes in length depending on your chosen option.
Please ensure that if you book an appointment that you do attend. If you become aware that you cannot attend, please cancel your appointment so that it can be booked by another student.
If you attend any careers appointments you may use the experience as evidence towards your Electives portfolio. The evidence required is a reflection of your personal and professional learning from engaging with the opportunity, which should be added to your Electives portfolio document. This will be found on your Brightspace GPA module.
The “How to...” programme is a series of sessions providing advice on key steps in your careers journey. You will find a wide range of topics, so whether you’re interested in finding a part-time job or thinking about your future career options there is a “How to…” session for you.
To book onto a 'How To' session, log in to the MyCareer portal and search Events, filtering your search to "How to". After finding a session you are interested in, scroll to bookings and click 'Book'.

These are 30 minute sessions, which are held each week and available to all students. There will also be an opportunity to stay on afterwards for additional Q&A on the topic.

This opportunity allows you to engage with an auto-generated mock interview, or you can browse through questions employers voted the most trustworthy and the ones you might likely be asked at interview.
Practise your interview technique against the clock, recording your answers as you go and compare your responses against video advice from employers which explain why they ask these questions and how good answers differ from poor ones.
To complete interview practice, log into MyCareer Plus and choose the Interview Simulator option from the Interviews panel.
You will need to complete a 'Pre-built' or 'Custom' mock interview of 8 questions and then review and reflect upon your answers as well as the 'Employer Advice'. You receive and can download this when you have finished the mock interview.
The interview simulator can be completed whenever you wish. It is recommended that you put aside an hour to be able to complete the interview practice and to reflect on the advice you receive.
If you use the interview simulator you may use the experience as evidence towards your Electives portfolio. This opportunity can only contribute a total of 1 hour. The evidence required is a reflection of your personal and professional learning from engaging with the opportunity, which should be added to your Electives portfolio document. This will be found on your Brightspace GPA module.
