Querying the marks you received
All student work is marked and then moderated by separate members of the course team. In addition, all work counting towards an award is moderated by an external examiner before being approved at a course assessment meeting. This process ensures that marking is fair and accurate.
If you feel your mark is unfair/unrepresentative, please contact your tutor/module leader for feedback on how that mark has been awarded. If at the end of that conversation you are still unsatisfied, you can review the Students’ Union guidelines regarding results appeal to see if this is the correct process to escalate your query.
I want to improve my mark, can I resit?
You cannot resit an assessment of a module if you have passed the module and the credit has been confirmed at a course assessment meeting.
If you have passed a module overall but did not submit an element of assessment for which you have an approved EC, you may be offered an opportunity to undertake the deferred assessment.
In almost all cases, resitting a referred module will cap the module at the pass mark.
Difference in published result and Brightspace
Screenshot your mark from Brightspace and send this to the Course Administration team courseadmin@hud.ac.uk and your module leader. Once your module leader has checked your mark, they will be able to confirm with the Course Administration team if any amendments need to be made to the mark. The Course Administration team will then reprocess your result and progression (if necessary) and notify you of the changes.
Please be aware that marks on Brightspace are provisional and subject to internal and external moderation and course assessment meeting approval, so the change might be genuine.
Please do not submit a results appeal without first following the above procedure.
I want to appeal my results
The Students’ Union provide detailed information and guidance on results appeals which will help you to check if this is the right process for you.
I have had my results appeal upheld, what happens?
The consequences following an upheld results appeal should be explained to you in the appeal outcome letter. If you are unsure, please take your appeal outcome letter to the Students’ Union Advice Centre as they may be able to explain it to you in more detail.
An upheld appeal, in most situations, will allow a retrospective EC to be applied to the results you appealed. How this impacts on your grades, classification and progression will depend on your overall results profile. If you are unsure of the impact, you should contact the Course Administration team on courseadmin@hud.ac.uk as soon as possible in case you have additional deferral work to complete.
The application of retrospective ECs will never just increase your marks.
If you have submitted a results appeal for assessments for which you have been offered a referral attempt, you should continue to complete the work for these assessments and submit them for the deadline. If an appeal is subsequently upheld and retrospective ECs applied, mark caps may be lifted and any changes to your progression will be updated as appropriate.
If you have submitted a results appeal for failed assessments and your appeal is upheld, you will be given a new assessment deadline.
Please be aware that results appeal outcomes can take up to 20 working days to be issued.
