Module Evaluation Surveys

What are Module Evaluation Surveys?

Module Evaluation Surveys are part of the University’s Student Voice system, and they are conducted each year to give YOU the opportunity to tell us what you think about the module, including things such as how it has operated, the curriculum content and assessment and feedback.

Each survey takes just a couple of minutes to complete, there are questions where you tick a box to say whether you think we are doing really well or not, and we ask for a couple of sentences which describes what we do well and what we need to work on.

Why should I take part?

Your feedback helps us to understand what we are doing well in your modules so that we can carry on and build on this, but also helps us to identify what we need to do better.

Although you complete the survey when you have finished the module, future students will benefit from your insight, just as you have benefitted from the feedback of students who have gone before you – module evaluation is an important and well-established part of the life-cycle of all our courses.

How can I take part?

You will see a Module Evaluation content area in Brightspace which contains links to the module survey. These links become live towards the end of the module when we ask you to complete the survey.

There are two types of questions:

1. You indicate on a scale your response to statements about your module.
2. We ask you to tell us what went well, and what you would like to see us do better.

Shortly after the closing date of the survey, we publish your collective feedback on the first type of question in the Module Evaluation area so that you can see the whole class responses.

We do not publish your responses to the second type of question, these are made available to the module leader for the purposes of improvement planning.

Please note, we do not share your responses, either on Brightspace or with your module leader, if fewer than five of you complete the module evaluation. This is to ensure that module evaluation is a confidential process, and your tutors cannot identify you or your responses to the survey.

When completing the surveys please remember that they are module specific – help us by giving us feedback on the relevant module only.

We have a separate process for course feedback and there is the Huddersfield Student Survey where you can tell us about your overall experience. If you have had a great time studying on a particular module, tell us that too, we like to know where we are getting things right!

How we listen to your Student Voice

 

Your Student Voice forms part of our annual evaluation system.

All module leaders use the feedback as part of their module report, and they produce action plans which take account of what you have said. These action plans are discussed by your course teams, where staff work together to improve module structure, content and delivery. Sometimes we share them with our external examiners who might suggest ways we can improve what we do.

We are developing a new system where we will share module feedback with you and with students coming into the module so that you can see what we do with the information you give us.
