Top tips on socialising at Huddersfield
1. Speak to your course mates. Whether it be by sitting near them in a lecture theatre, or socialising within a group chat, it's always good getting to know your fellow course mates. It's useful to remember that they are going through a similar experience to you, so as well as providing you with support in your studies, you often find they have a lot of similar interests to you.
2. Discover the Students' Union. The SU is here to supplement your academic experience with a range of sport, activities and opportunities. If you're interested in volunteering, joining a society or getting involved in a sport (either just to try it out or join a team!), the SU is your go-to.
3. Find a part time job. The Unviersity's JobShop posts hundreds of job listings that give you the perfect excuse to socialise and gain a little extra money. Just remember, you are advised to work a maximum of 15 hours per week alongside your studies!
4. Join or 'like' local social media groups. Facebook in particular has a whole host of groups and pages supporting local activities and businesses. This includes free running groups, local music venues and local eateries. You may also decide to create your own group!
5. Come along to the Autism Lunch Club. If you have Autistic Spectrum Condition, our Autism Lunch Club may be perfect for you! The Lunch Club runs every Wednesday lunchtime and gives you the opportunity to meet others with Autism and ask the Disability team any queries you have. It also provides the opportunity to have lunch in a quieter spot of campus.
