Joining us in April 2019, Claire came to the University of Huddersfield after 5 years as the Head of Careers at Leeds Beckett University. She brings a wealth of experience from a background of career coaching and career development.

Alongside running our Careers Service Claire also runs her own hypnotherapy company helping people overcome some problems they come to her with- such as weight loss, quitting smoking and hypnobirthing.
I joined in July 2019 from the University of Stirling in Scotland by way of Essex prior to that. I bring a lot of strategic thinking and planning to the role.

So that’s the advice I’d give to you. “Get involved”, no matter your course, interests or hobbies. Whether it’s a society, part-time job or new activity try something new and give your best.
I'm Julie Bhagat the Career Consultant linked to Arts and Humanities. My role is to work with a range of staff across the university to run projects which help students and graduates increase their chances of getting into the type of work or self-employment that they really want.
I also support a project looking at how we can improve support for international students and help students gain a more global perspective.

LinkedIn is a sort of 'Facebook for professionals' if you haven't come across it. We offer lots of support to get started including workshops and individual help with your profile.
Hi, I’m Abi and I’m a Careers Consultant linked to the School of Computing and Engineering and the School of Education and Professional Development. I run guidance appointments and deliver careers education and decision making sessions to students at all stages in my Schools across the academic year.
I am also responsible for working on our disability remit, working collaboratively with teams across the University to close the gap in career outcomes for our disabled students and graduates.
My biggest piece of advice is:
Anything you can do to enhance your CV and give you plenty of experiences to talk about in applications and interviews. Even if you haven’t started early on in your University journey, it is never too late to start getting those experiences and enhancing your CV.
I’m Sam, a Careers and Employability Adviser. I run quick CV or cover letter checks, 20-minute advice appointments and also co-deliver the ‘How to…’ and ‘Preparing for Life after Uni’ programmes. My key focus is to engage with all students across all subjects in the University.
My advice to students is: When putting together your CV don’t just list your key skills, ensure to provide an example of how you have used and developed those skills. Providing an example evidences to the employer that you possess the skills they are looking for and have utilised them in a real setting.

My advice to students and graduates is to be willing to step outside your comfort zone and take the opportunities that come your way, be it an internship, placement, volunteering or part-time job opportunity. The more roles you try, the more likely you are to find what it is that you want to do career-wise. Remember, you can never have too much work-experience on your CV, so why not get applying for roles via the University’s JobShop today?

My job involves building relationships and working with businesses of all sizes, local to global to connect them to our student and graduate talent. We aim to increase the number and quality of job roles advertised on the Jobshop website, with a particular focus on part-time jobs for students.
