- When should I start looking for a placement?
We recommend beginning your placement search at least 2 to 3 months before the placement is due to start, taking into account any school holidays. Starting early increases the range of opportunities available and gives you the best chance of securing a suitable placement.
- I have found a placement, what is the next step?
Submit your full placement details to the placement team as soon as possible, using the placement questionnaire shared with you via email. You will be required to complete your start and end dates along with the mentor details. The Placement Team will then confirm the placement and send relevant documentation to your chosen setting.
- I can't find a placement; can I receive support from the Placement Team?
Yes, we are happy to support you in your search for a placement. Trainees are expected to approach at least 30 placement providers and use the search tracking template (which will be provided) to record all enquiries before reaching out to us. We are unable to contact schools or settings on your behalf however, we can offer further support by providing a range of resources, guidance, and tools to help you continue your search.
- I don't know who my mentor or contact will be at placement?
It is usually the staff member you secured your placement with, alternatively, provide us with the name of the staff member you've primarily been speaking with.
- Where can I find the Placement Team?
You can come and see us in the Charles Sykes Building on the University Queensgate Campus, we are based within CS1/06.
- What should I do if I have safeguarding concerns?
Follow the settings safeguarding procedures and report immediately to the DSL. Also inform your PAT.
