For as much as we can tell you about all the benefits of joining us on the Global Professional Award ourselves, sometimes it's better to hear from the students who are completing the programme.
Eve Doherty talks about her experience on the Global Professional Award
Drama and English Language BA(Hons) | The School of Arts and Humanities
The Global Professional Award is a valuable qualification to have as it covers a wide range of topics and skills which can be applied to any degree, and indeed your everyday life, personally and professionally. It covers topics from stress management to presentation skills. The GPA also allows you to meet and work with students from all different courses, which is really interesting, and a great way to make connections. The staff leading the GPA are friendly and approachable, and the atmosphere created in sessions is stress free, productive and motivational. I feel that the GPA will not only improve my career prospects, but give me ideas and suggestions as to what career path I would like to take when I leave university.
Computer Science with Cyber Security BSc(Hons) | The School of Computing and Engineering
The thing I like most about the GPA is that I can meet students from all over the university, even If they aren’t in the same school as me. In addition to this, the Global Professional Award has tailored their content, including many subjects which wouldn’t haven’t been covered in my normal lessons. It is a great addition to my course as I can further enhance my employability skills and will give me an edge over students from other universities when I graduate.
I find that the GPA is very flexible and easy to fit around my own schedule as the dates are given in advance and this gives you plenty of time to manage all the deadlines / workloads you need to pass the Global Professional Award. Overall, I had a great experience when it comes to do doing the GPA, I found that my electives were easy to do as there were opportunities available which the Global Professional Award highlighted to me – some of them, which I personally took part in were working collaboratively with the GPA Staff on information stalls at Fresher's Fair and having the opportunity to become a Facilitator in their workshops.
Physical Geography BSc(Hons) | The School of Applied Sciences
The benefits of doing the GPA programme are the invaluable experience, it encourages you to consider your employment opportunities from the beginning of your degree. The GPA allows you to take yourself away from your studies and gives a chance to reflect on your wellbeing. Likewise, I feel more confident about my graduate employment prospects and having a clearer picture of what the future might hold.
