What is the Student Advisory Council?
It is a new group set up in the School of Computing and Engineering that will be able to give the School feedback about school-wide initiatives, work with the School on making changes to improve student experience, and allow the School to hear the voice of its students.
The Council will be led by students and will meet twice a term. Meetings will be formal, giving members experience of conducting themselves in a professional manner. The Council will be made up of students from across the School, and members will have the opportunity to represent their fellow students and work to improve everybody’s experience of studying here.
Who is it for?
All students on a taught course in the School of Computing and Engineering. We would like students from all courses, levels and years to apply, because the Council should represent everybody in the School.
No prior experience is needed to be on the Council, so if you are interested, please complete the short application form.
What do Council members do?
They turn up to meetings and give their opinions on things happening in the School. It is a simple as that!
There will be opportunities to take up more senior positions on the Council after you have joined. These include: Chair, Deputy Chair, Secretary and Communications Officer. These positions also include mentoring from staff within the School.
What are the benefits of being on the Council?
Being a member of a formal committee like this looks great on a CV because it gives you experience of working with a range of people in a different kind of setting than what you might be used to. The Student Advisory Council will also count towards the hours you need to complete for your GPA, so it can help you gain a variety of different experiences.
You will also have a direct impact on improving student experience in the School, including your own, meaning everybody benefits from you being on the Council. The Council is made up of amazing people, so you will also meet lots of different and interesting people as well.
How do I apply?
