Responding positively to feedback
Feedback
Feedback is a valuable tool and can come in many forms. You may not even realise when you are being given feedback in some cases! Whether it's verbal or written feedback, being able to apply it to your future learning is a valuable skill to help you progress further.
What is feedback? How should you be using feedback to help you improve?
Thinking the right way about feedback (some top tips)
Feedback can seem like a scary thing because you might think it's a negative view of you or your work. The best way to think about feedback is that it is a learning opportunity for you and you should openly accept it. Here are a few key things to remember when thinking about feedback:
- Remember feedback isn’t just your mark!
- Feedback is not a personal attack, its designed to help you improve.
- Know where to find your feedback (Brightspace or an in-class session).
- Read and understand the feedback comments.
- Collate all feedback comments in a doc and use to improve your work (Feed-forward).
- Reflect on what you could have done differently.
- Never make the same mistake twice!
- Don’t lose silly marks due to lack of care!
- By collating feedback comments you can highlight areas requiring development.
- Proofread your work before submission to avoid getting lots of feedback about spelling, punctuation and grammar.
