As Christians we believe there is a need to create a space for worship and prayer on campus. These are essential ingredients to maintain our sanity as individuals, as well as building our perseverance and emotional resilience, especially during the post pandemic time.

Working in a busy environment such as the university, it is also comforting to know that Ericcson Mapfumo, the Christian Chaplain will be holding the university community in prayer, especially for peace and tranquillity for our campus. Even experienced pilots must continue to retrain as part of their service, so that they can remain relevant and keep their skills up to date. So as a Christian community, there is need to engage in spiritual disciplines to “sharpen the saw” of our Christian practice, and we are fortunate as a university, to have spiritual pathways to allow for this, which include:

  • Scheduled times of prayer
  • Regular reception of Holy communion as part of our Christian tradition
  • To encourage depth in our faith, through topical Bible study groups and discussions.
  • Using our creativity, through playing games that stretch our minds or helps us to relax, for example, weight training and playing chess just to name a few.
  • Times to reflect on our university experience as well as self-directed study on religious topics of our interests
  • Engaging in sensitive, respectful and educational conversations with people from different religious expressions
  • Themed academic seminars on religious topics which encourages interdisciplinary research, supporting work across our academic schools.
  • International and national conferences connecting us to the global landscape, also supporting the global award initiative at the university.
