The Role of the Graduate School

The Graduate School brings together services and resources from across the University, to help PGRs reach their potential. It acts as a focus for all areas of support and development for PGRs, including academic, personal and social. Whatever your discipline or School, as a PGR you are part of the Graduate School, which is led by the Dean of the Graduate School, Professor Monty Adkins.

Some services to the Graduate School are centralised, providing services to all Academic Schools, such as the Researcher Environment Team, Registry, the Library, Careers and Employability Service, International Office and Disability and Wellbeing Services. You will find links to these at appropriate points throughout this website. Other sources of information and support for PGRs are located within the seven Academic Schools, for example PGR administrators, Directors of Graduate Education, School/subject-specific events and supervisor(s).

Some proceedings, such as regular events and competitions or PGR representation, may cross several Schools or communicate ideas and between School level and central level, and vice versa.

The core team who work together to run the Graduate School are:

• The PGR team from Registry, who are responsible for the regulations covering all stages of the PGR journey.
• The Researcher Environment team from Research and Enterprise, who are responsible for all aspects of training and personal/professional development for PGRs.
• The Directors of Graduate Education (one per School) who are responsible for how all aspects of PGR programmes are run within their Schools, supported by Research Administration staff.
