This Student Can: Chido Nyakonda

I'm a 2021 graduate who studied Psychology with Counselling having been accepted into university from a BTEC course background (Musical Theatre). I am classified as a home student but I'm originally from Zimbabwe and wasn't a party of the UK Education system till year 9 which was when I moved here.

I can say this with confidence, it wasn't until I moved to England did I ever feel inferior, mostly because, from my background, Black is the majority and it was quite a shock to the system not only being classed as a minority in terms of number representation, but it felt like there was an undercoat of inferiority that came with it. This only motivated me to thrive higher and not only do it for myself but everyone else who has felt 'less than' in any point in their educational life and this goes beyond being Black. So, I ran for Equalities Officer for the Students' Union to impact on a wider scale and I did just that.

Filmed May 2022, information correct at time of filming.
