Enterprise Placement Year
What is Enterprise Placement Year?
Enterprise Placement Year (EPY) is a placement opportunity for students who have a firm business idea and a strong desire and commitment to start that business/social enterprise or commence self-employment / paid freelancing work.
Successful applicants will spend the year starting a business, freelance work or self-employment and will be expected to begin trading to test their product / service in the marketplace well before the end of EPY.
EPY applicants must be ready to demonstrate professionalism and have taken the first step to set up their own start-up or freelance service.
EPY is not suitable as an opportunity to bolster portfolio / employment opportunities.

What do I need for a successful EPY?
The success of EPY will depend on you and your own efforts. You’ll be expected to fully immerse yourself in developing your business idea or growing your existing venture. To get the most out of EPY you’ll have:
- a firm business idea and commercial awareness
- drive, initiative, and commitment to start up
- enthusiasm, self-motivation and belief

When is the deadline for applications and how do I apply?
Applications for EPY 2027/28 aren't open yet, but when they are, submit your completed application form to placements@hud.ac.uk.
The deadline for submitting your application is still to be confirmed once applications open. Applications received after the closing date will be automatically rejected.
If your application is successful, you’ll be invited to give a 5-minute presentation on your business followed by an interview to discuss your plans for EPY. Interviews will take place with the Enterprise Team, dates to be confirmed.
