What are academic skills?
Your academic skills will develop throughout the whole time that you are at university and we are a dedicated team who are here to support you along this academic journey. The Academic Skills Team can help you to achieve your full potential by working with you in the way that suits you best; this could be through 1-2-1 tutorials, online resources, workshops and embedded sessions which are timetabled into your subject modules.
Our services are free, available to all registered students and can be accessed both online or face to face on campus. Whatever stage you are at, we can help you to develop your academic skills, improve your confidence and accomplish your goals.
Here are just a few examples of the type of academic skills we can help you with:
- Organisation and time management
- Finding and evaluating information
- Critical thinking and constructing arguments
- Reading and note-taking strategies
- Developing your academic writing style
- Problem-solving and analytical skills
- Referencing
- Advice on essays, major written projects and dissertations
- Presentation skills
- Editing your work
- Exam preparation
We can work with you to develop your academic skills within assessments; however, we are unable to comment on the accuracy of your subject specific content, what to include, or the grade you may achieve.
