I've Received an Attendance Email
Attendance emails are part of the University's approach to supporting student engagement and identifying attendance concerns at an early stage.
Receiving an attendance email does not automatically mean that you have done something wrong or that formal action is being taken. In many cases, attendance emails are intended to make students aware of concerns, encourage re-engagement and ensure that support can be offered where needed.
If you receive an attendance email, it is important that you read it carefully and take any action requested
You may have received an attendance email because the University has identified a concern about your attendance or engagement that requires your attention.
Attendance emails are usually sent where attendance has reduced, repeated absences have been recorded, or attendance patterns suggest that you may need support or may need to take action.
Receiving an attendance email does not automatically mean that formal action will be taken. In many cases, attendance emails are intended to make you aware of a concern, encourage early action and help you access support before the concern becomes more serious.
If a mandatory formal meeting is required, this will be made clear in the original email correspondence. The Student Engagement Team will either confirm the meeting arrangements or provide instructions for you to book the meeting directly.
For international students requiring visa compliance monitoring, attendance emails may also relate to attendance or engagement requirements connected with the University’s responsibilities as a Student Visa sponsor. Further guidance is available in .
Next Steps:
- Read the email carefully and follow any instructions or deadlines in it.
- Check your attendance record in MyHud.
- If the email asks you to respond, reply using the route or instructions given in the email.
- If the email explains that you must attend a formal meeting, follow the meeting instructions in the email.
- If you think the concern is caused by an attendance recording issue, check B4 or Section C first.
- If circumstances are affecting your attendance or engagement, use Section E to choose the right support route.
- Contact the team only if the email is still unclear after you have checked the relevant guidance.
Optional Support Available:
- Book a 10-minute informal attendance meeting if you want a quick triage conversation about the attendance email, what it means or what to do next.
- Book a 30-minute Student Engagement Coach appointment if your circumstances are ongoing, complex or affecting your ability to continue your studies.
